Our Purpose

"Our purpose is to love God and share that love by making, building, and equipping disciples of Jesus Christ here in Huntsville and throughout the world."

What We Believe

We believe that we can completely trust what God's Word teaches us!

We believe the God of the Bible is a wonderfully complex God who can meet our every need!

We believe Jesus Christ provides meaning, purpose and fulfillment for our lives!

We believe  the Holy Spirit provides the spiritual empowerment to live the Christian life!

We believe everyone is in need of a Savior!

We believe the only way to heaven is through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ!

We believe we are secure in Christ - forever!

We believe God has given a strategy and mission for our lives through the church!

We believe water baptism and the Lord's Supper help us realize and remember what Christ has done for us.

We believe your relationship with Jesus Christ provides you with a special relationship to us!

We believe we are to carry forth the vision and direction God has given for the West Huntsville Baptist Church!

We believe the promise that Christ is coming again and that provides great hope and motivation to love and serve God with all of our hearts!

We believe we have a God whose desire is for no one to perish, but for all to come to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  Our challenge is to commit ourselves, as individuals and as a church, to share with as many people as possible the good news of salvation.  The eternal destiny of people hangs in the balance!

Our History
Our Church was organized on October 29, 1899;  Rev. J. A. Eaves was elected as the first pastor, and B. L. Tipps was elected sexton.  The church began in a building on 7th. Ave. that is still being used as a residence.  In 1906 during Bro. C. L. Culpepper's ministry the property at the corner of 8th Ave. and Triana Boulevard was purchased and a new wooden church was built.  In 1936 the wooden structure burned.  The people banded together and completed a new stone structure in only 4 months.  The church met in this building until the present auditorium was dedicated in 1961 during Bro. Cecil O'Rear's ministry.

An educational wing (north) was added in 1963 during Bro. Sam Wolfe's ministry; that building was named for him at the Church's 90th Anniversary celebration.  The other educational wing (south) was built in 1980 during the ministry of Bro. Max Barton.  When this wing was dedicated it was named for J. Vernon Rich, pastor from 1926 - 1958.
Through the years literally thousands have been saved and discipled at this Church.  God has blessed in an unusual way through the years.  Because of its location near Redstone Arsenal, the Church has ministered to people from all over the world, and has sent out missionaries and members to all parts of the world.
Bro. Scott Gossett is the eighteenth pastor of the Church and has been used of God to guide the Church to be a "Worshiping Church" and a “Giving Church”. In 1992, the Lord impressed Bro. Scott that the Church should be debt free.  At that time $125,000.00   was still owed on the J. Vernon Rich educational wing.  That began a rain of blessing from God that is still falling.  The building debt was paid and the facilities got a much needed face lift.
We believe in a bright future for this Church that is more glorious than the past.  We believe that God will continue to use this Church in the salvation of souls, in the edification of the saints and the spreading of the Gospel throughout the world.  We would like for you to become a part of this exciting ministry.
